The EU's New Digital Border System
Introduction
The European Union (EU) has a new system called the Entry/Exit System (EES). It is a computer system for people from other countries. It replaces passport stamps with digital data.
Main Body
The system started in October 2025. People from non-EU countries must give their fingerprints and a photo of their face. This helps the EU find security threats and people who stay too long. However, the system has many problems. Some computers do not work. Some airports in Italy and Portugal are not ready. This makes long lines of people at the border. Because of this, some officers do not check every person. In the future, the EU wants a new travel permit called ETIAS. It will cost 20 Euros. But the EU will only start ETIAS when the EES system works well.
Conclusion
The new system helps security. But it has many problems. The EU must fix these problems before they start the next travel rule.
