Big Fire in Delhi Kills Nine People

Introduction

Nine people died in a house fire in Vivek Vihar, Delhi, on Sunday morning. Many other people were hurt.

Main Body

The fire started very early on Sunday. Fourteen fire trucks came to the four-story building. The building was hard to enter, so firefighters could not reach the fire quickly. A small child died in the fire. Some leaders are sad and want to help. The Prime Minister gave money to the families of the dead and the hurt people. However, some politicians are angry. They say the government did not do a good job to keep people safe. This is not the first fire in this area. In May 2024, a hospital fire killed seven babies. In December 2023, a fire in a poor area killed a one-year-old child.

Conclusion

Doctors are helping the hurt people now. The government is giving money to the families.

⚡ The 'Action' Switch: Now vs. Then

In this story, we see two ways to talk about time. To reach A2, you must know when to use the Past (finished) and the Present (happening now).

1. The Past (It's over) Look at these words from the text:

  • dieddied
  • startedstarted
  • gavegave

Pattern: We add -ed to most action words to show they happened yesterday or last year. (Example: help becomes helped).

2. The Present (It's happening) Look at these words:

  • are helpingare helping
  • is givingis giving

Pattern: Use am/is/are + word with -ing for things happening right this second.
