Jeongwoo Ham Wins the International Series Singapore Open
Introduction
South Korean golfer Jeongwoo Ham has won the $2 million Singapore Open at Sentosa Golf Club. By holding onto his lead throughout the entire tournament, Ham secured his first title on the Asian Tour.
Main Body
The final round was challenging due to bad weather, including high humidity and a three-and-a-half-hour delay caused by lightning. Despite these disruptions, Ham shot a 68 (three-under-par), finishing with a total of 16-under to win by two strokes. He was followed by Australian Cameron John, who shot a 66. Because this event is part of the Open Qualifying Series, both players have now qualified for the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. Regarding the competition, Ham started the final day with a four-shot lead. Although John managed to reduce that gap to just one stroke by the 12th hole, Ham regained control with birdies on the 13th, 14th, and 18th holes. Ham emphasized that his strong putting helped him win, even though he felt his iron play was not perfect. This victory is only the second time a South Korean player has won this event, following Younghan Song in 2016. Other players of note included Josele Ballester, Jazz Janewattananond, and Tomohiro Ishizaka, who tied for third place. Among the Indian players, Pukhraj Singh Gill and Gaganjeet Bhullar tied for 26th. While Gill improved his position with a final round of 67, Bhullar dropped from fifth place after shooting a 73. Karandeep Kochhar was the only other Indian player to make the cut, finishing in 70th place.
Conclusion
Jeongwoo Ham's dominant victory earns both him and Cameron John a spot in the Open Championship, while the Asian Tour now moves to the GS Caltex Maekyung Open in South Korea.
