U.S. House Extends Spying Law

Introduction

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a new rule. This rule keeps a spying law active for a short time.

Main Body

The law is called Section 702. It lets the government watch people who are not U.S. citizens. These people must be in other countries. The government does not need a warrant for this. Some people like this law. They say it stops terrorists and helps save hostages. Other people hate this law. They say the government uses it to spy on Americans. Some FBI officers used the law in the wrong way before. Many leaders in the House disagreed on how long the law should last. In the end, they agreed to keep it until April 30.

Conclusion

The House gave the program a little more time. Now, the Senate must decide what to do before April 30.
