Search for Two Missing US Soldiers in Morocco

Introduction

Two US soldiers are missing in the ocean near Morocco. They fell into the water and are not safe.

Main Body

The soldiers were on a break. One soldier fell from a cliff into the sea. He could not swim. A second soldier jumped into the water to help him. A big wave took both men away. Now, many people are looking for them. They use drones, boats, and divers. A special plane is also searching the water. Divers from Morocco are looking inside caves. These soldiers were part of a big exercise called African Lion. More than 30 countries work together in this exercise. They want to make their armies strong and be friends.

Conclusion

The search continues. The US military is investigating the accident.

🌊 Action Words: Now vs. Then

In this story, we see two ways to talk about time. One is for things that already happened and one is for things happening now.

1. The Past (It is finished) We add -ed to the end of the word to show it happened yesterday or a while ago.

  • fell β†’\rightarrow (Irregular: the past of fall)
  • jumped β†’\rightarrow He did this already.
  • worked β†’\rightarrow (In the text: work is present, but worked would be past).

2. The Present (It is happening now) We use these words for things that are true right now.

  • are missing β†’\rightarrow They are gone right now.
  • use drones β†’\rightarrow They are doing this today.
  • continue β†’\rightarrow The search is still going.

Quick Tip for A2: If you see -ed, think Yesterday\text{Yesterday}. If you see are/is, think Now\text{Now}.
