Burkina Faso Army Holds Journalist

Introduction

A group called Reporters Without Borders says the army in Burkina Faso took a journalist named Atiana Serge Oulon. They say the army hurt him.

Main Body

In 2022, Mr. Oulon wrote that a military leader stole money. Then, armed men took him from his home in June 2024. The government says he is in the army, but the group says this is a lie. Mr. Oulon stayed in a secret prison with 40 other people. He had no bed and drank dirty water. The guards hit him with sticks. Captain Ibrahim TraorΓ© leads the country now. He stopped political parties and closed many groups. He says people are free to speak, but other groups say he uses fear to stop people.

Conclusion

Nobody knows where Mr. Oulon is now. The government does not answer questions about him.

πŸ•’ The 'Past Story' Pattern

When we tell a story about things that already happened, we often add -ed to the action word. This is the easiest way to move from A1 to A2.

Examples from the text:

  • Stop β†’\rightarrow Stopped*
  • Close β†’\rightarrow Closed*

Watch out! Some words are 'rebels.' They change completely instead of adding -ed:

  • Write β†’\rightarrow Wrote*
  • Take β†’\rightarrow Took*
  • Say β†’\rightarrow Said*

πŸ’‘ Quick Word Swap

Instead of using "very bad," you can use these words from the story to be more specific:

  • Dirty (Not clean β†’\rightarrow dirty water)
  • Secret (Hidden β†’\rightarrow secret prison)
