Fatal Boating Incident on the St. Lawrence River

A 41-year-old resident of Ottawa has died following the capsizing of a vessel on the St. Lawrence River during the evening of Saturday.

The incident occurred shortly after 22:00 hours north of Grenadier Island, located within the township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands, approximately 50 to 55 kilometers northeast of Kingston. According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the vessel involved was a 15-foot aluminum boat carrying several individuals. While the majority of the occupants successfully reached the shore, one individual remained missing following the vessel's inversion. Emergency response operations were conducted by the Leeds County Detachment of the OPP and the Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Service. Search personnel located the missing 41-year-old male unresponsive in the water. Despite subsequent transport via ambulance to a regional medical facility, the individual was pronounced deceased. Regarding the current status of the event, the OPP has confirmed that a formal investigation into the circumstances of the capsizing is presently ongoing.
