Western Australia Gets Digital Licenses

Introduction

The government of Western Australia will spend 28.2 million dollars. They want to make digital driver's licenses and a digital ID system.

People can put their ID on the Service WA app. They can also use Apple and Google wallets. A small test starts in mid-2025. The licenses will be ready in late 2027. This is not a rule. People can still use plastic cards. Some people do not like digital IDs. Other states in Australia already have this system. The government waited to make the system safe. The digital ID is better for privacy. Now, shops take a lot of personal information from plastic cards. The digital ID only tells the shop the person's age.
