University Press Stops Children's Book
Introduction
The University of Queensland Press (UQP) will not print a book called Bila, a river cycle. Two people, Jazz Money and Matt Chun, made the book. The university stopped the book because of things Matt Chun wrote in other articles. Now, many famous writers are angry. They will not work with the university again.
Main Body
The university found an article by Matt Chun online. In this article, Chun wrote about a bad event at Bondi Beach. The university says these words are against their rules about anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism is hate toward Jewish people. The university wants to destroy 5,000 copies of the book. Some writers, like Evelyn Araluen and Randa Abdel-Fattah, are very sad and angry. They say the university is stopping free speech. Jazz Money says the book is about a river and not about politics. However, the Queensland Jewish Board of Deputies is happy with the university. They say Chun's words cause problems. Now, the police are looking at Chun's writing. A bookstore called Dymocks took Chun's other books away.
Conclusion
The university and many Indigenous writers are now fighting. The university says they must follow their rules. The writers say the university is wrong. Many great writers are leaving the university press.
