Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Outlines Structural Reforms and Personnel Expansion of the Uttar Pradesh Police
Introduction
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath presided over the passing-out parade of over 57,000 police constables at the Reserve Police Lines, where he detailed the institutional evolution of the Uttar Pradesh Police since 2017.
Main Body
The Chief Minister characterized the state of the police force prior to 2017 as being in a state of crisis, asserting that previous administrative periods were marked by instability and the influence of organized crime. He stated that current reforms have resulted in the cessation of communal riots and the elimination of extortion practices, which he attributed to increased police morale and a more rigorous application of the law. Institutional capacity has been expanded through significant fiscal and structural adjustments. According to the Chief Minister, the police budget has tripled since 2017, and the state has seen the recruitment of more than 2.18 lakh personnel and over one lakh promotions within the last nine years. Infrastructure developments include the establishment of seven police commissionerates, the creation of cyber police stations and forensic laboratories across all 75 districts, and the alignment of the Anti-Terrorism Squad's training with the standards of the National Investigation Agency. Gender integration has been identified as a primary component of the force's modernization. Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna noted that the 2025 batch involves the direct recruitment of 60,244 constables, including over 12,000 women. This represents a 20% female composition in current recruitment, supported by the Mission Shakti safety programs. The Chief Minister highlighted the professionalism of female recruits, noting that women such as Neha Yadav, Sonam, and Riya Singh Kushwaha achieved top distinctions in academic and outdoor training categories. Regarding operational philosophy, the Chief Minister advocated for a dual approach to policing, wherein the force maintains strictness toward criminal elements while remaining sensitive to the general citizenry. He emphasized that the discipline instilled during training is a prerequisite for reducing casualties during field deployment.
Conclusion
The event concluded with the formal induction of the 2025 constable batch into active service, marking a transition toward a more modernized and numerically expanded security framework in Uttar Pradesh.
